Augmented Reality - The Future of Advertising Technology

The commercial possibilities of augmented reality marketing and advertising are continuing to be highlighted by industry experts. We particularly enjoyed reading Techi.com: Did Minority Report predict the future of advertising technology? which pointed out that the sci-fi future of advertising is not such a far off vision:

"Augmented reality. Facial (and eventually retinal?) recognition. Location-based targeting. These are things that we are starting to see more and more of today. Perhaps we don’t have to wait 43 years to get a Guinness beer ad tailored specifically to us as we walk by." - JD Rucker.

We've been saying for some time that this technology is just around the corner, having previously discussed those inevitable comparisons to Minority Report in a recent post. Interactive advertising has been an area of particular interest for us since collaborating with Channel Five and outdoor advertising giants JCDecaux to produce this campaign for The Gadget Show.

We've also created a how to guide to augmented reality for marketers. Take a look and to find out more.
